The Citizen Police Academy offers members of the Kent area a chance to see first hand what police officers do and experience. In addition, it offers attendees an opportunity to make a unique connection with the Kent Police Department and its members.
CLASSES
The Citizen Police Academy involves eleven weekly classes and a graduation night. Each four-hour class is held at the Kent Police Department and topics include:
- Case law
- Court processes
- Crime prevention
- Criminal investigations
- Criminal law
- Drunk and drugged driving enforcement
- Juvenile diversion program
- Parking and traffic enforcement
- Specialized police functions
- Use of force
Attendees will also be afforded the opportunity to experience officer "ride-alongs" and police equipment. This is a rare chance for area residents to see the difference between television and the reality of police work.
