Our Government

The City of Kent is an incorporated entity that adopted a city charter by a vote of the people in May 1963. The Kent City Charter provides for a council-manager form of government. Together, Council Members, including the Mayor, and the City Manager work together to serve the residents and visitors of Kent.

CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE

The City of Kent is seeking applicants to serve on a Charter Review Committee. The Charter is the document that defines the structure and powers of Kent city government and is similar to a constitution.  The current Charter can be found here.  Every 10 years, Kent convenes a committee made up of Kent residents to review the City Charter and offer possible suggestions for changes to the Charter. The Committee will meet as often as necessary to complete their review by mid-summer 2025. The Committee's suggestions will be shared with City Council, which will vote on the suggestions that will go on the ballot in November 2025.  If you are interested in applying, contact your Council member directly. A list of Council wards and contact information is available here. You may also contact the Clerk of Council at councilclerk@kentohio.gov and request an application.
